![]() Waiting . . . waiting . . . waiting . . .
Nothing . . . It's been so hot lately, I believe growth on all mats has slowed. There are some pups on a few mats that started poking out as usual, but then seemed to stop. It's not for lack of water or sun . . . |

![]() Where are you Oblofusc? Perhaps the humidity is not very high, or do you need to fertilize them?

![]() I'm in Tallahassee. Humidity? I'm not sure what it is from a scientific standpoint, but I can tell you that when I walk outside it's like thirteen hot wet sheep jump on you and wrestle you down into a giant collander full of hot, steaming spaghetti.
And that's at night. Fertilizer? Let's just say I've been investigated by the Department of Homeland Security due to satellite imagery readings that indicate there is an unusually high concentration of nitrates in the vicinity which in such levels is usually only linked to terrorist fertilizer-bomb factories. Oh, and when they left, all they said was, "hey, nice banana trees. But, why aren't there any bananas on them?" Any more questions? |

![]() I'm in Milwaukee & have 2 I.C. nannas into their 3rd summer & about 7 ft tall - inground. Can someone tell me what a "flag" leaf looks like? I know I may have to wait tll next year or longer. They grow real slow in winter in cool sunroom. Thanks

![]() Rub it in why don't you. A photo gallery of flag leaves. I love how the photographer is looking DOWN at some. All of my banana plants are so tall I can't even see emerging leaves until they're poking up about three feet and I'm like 100 yards away and can kind of see their tops.
I am becoming convinced this is all a cosmic joke, or perhaps a prank somehow engineered by my ex-wife. Maybe, if I'm lucky, I'll get the biggest flag leaf ever--three days before the first hard freeze of the year. Or, maybe I'll have a huge, record breaking bunch of bananas developing and being carefully nurtured with the right fertilizers and watering, and a week away from harvest a swarm of insects suddenly appears, decimating them up out of reach as I helplessly watch. Yes, I will be like the Old Man and the Sea of bananas. |

![]() Haha! Oblofusc - you kill me!! But don't worry about the insects - if your nanas are that close to harvest, hack them down when you hear the insect swarm coming - they will ripen fine when you have them safe indoors!

![]() Thanks Jarred, finally after 2 years, I know what a "flag" leaf looks like! Thanks for explaining it too.
Hey, Oblofusc, you should be a writer if you aren't already. I can't wait for your posting when yours DOES flag. I'll race you! We are the Old man & Woman of the Sea of Banannas! Hot & steemy? Yes, we get that here too. I sometimes feel like I just got out of a "giant collander full of hot steemy spaghetti" too LOL. Thirteen hot wet sheep did jump on me a few times, but I'll never admit it...that way. Hey, why the the name Oboflusc?

![]() My Dwarf Brazilian is now over 10' tall without a flag leaf. It's been in the ground since April of 2007. You think you're frustrated?
