Default Growing bananas in zone 6B/7A

Hello all, I'm new to the forum...Forgive me if this is a silly question, but I'm wondering...if you can cut Musa basjoo down to the ground and cover it, couldn't you do the same thing with an edible banana plant? I'd like to grow Musa ice cream, but how would I overwinter it? Thanks!

The corms on edible bananas will turn to mush and rot when the ground freezes. It is in musa basjoos genetics to be able to withstand some cold temperatures.

Thanks for enlightening me, sorry if this is also a dumb question, but would heat tape over the ground covered with mulch keep the ground warm enough?

I would think you would need multiple heat-tapes and alot of water in the air.. You have James' thread and you can PM him asking for the details.. It could be heater's as well.. I know that's not the most recent thread he has where the banana's are coming along. :^)
