Do you think this will work?
I dug up a decent size pup from the mama Musa today and there was only one root attached about 1 inch in size. I put some rooting hormone on the bottom and put it in a pot with miracle grow soil and will keep watered and shaded. Do you think it will root more and survive?
Thanks Clare |

Re: Do you think this will work?
I wouldn't worry to much about it. Two weeks ago, I was digging a 2 footer pup for a friend and cut off a 3 inch sord pup (no leaves) in the process, not even knowing it was there. It only had one tiny root. No time to do anything else, I dropped it in a container of water. Two days later I stuck it in a 1 gallon pot and watered it in. Now it's 16 inches tall, has grown two healthy leaves.

I also wouldn't worry about it. I was amazed at how I saw a nearby farm crew preparing corms for transplanting recently. This farmer has over 75 acres and was replacing some of his older plants; they take the suckers and clean everything from them, cutting the tops, checking for infestation of corm weevils, then dipping the cleaned corms in a fungicide/insecticide solution before planting them about a foot deep. Check out a short video I took HERE.

Re: Do you think this will work?
Definitely worth a shot. It also kinda depends on how much corm from mama you got attached to it. I would plant it in a shady spot and water it sparingly, if I were you.
