Anyone seen this before?

So I was at a friend's house whom I haven't seen for a long time and, unbeknownst to me, he has a nice basjoo mat. Taking a closer look, I noticed the undersides of the leaves, especially the younger ones, looked like this:

I haven't seen a huge number of basjoos in my life, but of what I have seen, none of them have had this characteristic.

Has anyone else seen a basjoo with this coloration before?

Pisang Klotek and Red Iholena's have similar reds but they are better..

Some of mine will tint more than others.
This happens with new leaves and the tint will disappear as the leaf matures.
Some leaves don't tint but still have a pinkish midrib which disappears also.

That is cool. I haven't seen that before on a basjoo. I have seen the pink midrib, mine do that, but its pretty subtle. Just shows I still have a lot to learn.

I've seen a milder version of that on fresh SH-3640 leaves. but its not a small plant.

The red tint has dissapeared and the leaf is all green.
