Re: Red Bananas
Description from Going Bananas' web catalog:
DWARF & RED TALL - Known by many names in the world, (Cuban Red, Jamaican Red, Colorado, Indio, Macaboo) this very sweet lady finger fruit is most beautiful. It turns "sunset" colors when ripening from dark burgundy to orange, yellow-green and muted colors in between. The full bodied flavor and distinctive sweetness makes it worth the wait of 24 months or more to give fruit. The tall red, with a dark maroon pseudostem can grow 14-16 ft, the Dwarf version grows about 8-9 ft in our area. The Red Tall and Dwarf Red are the same except for heights. |

Re: Red Bananas
Our local Albertson's and Ralphs almost always carry them. Often they were picked too early and never ripen properly. Look for very plump ones and wait for them to get a bit soft and show hints of lighter colors (like they were turning yellow under the red). They are very tasty. They are more aromatic than Cavendish and have a nice, dense texture. Don't buy skinny hard ones that haven't filled out -- it's a waste of money. Like others said, definitely a dessert banana.

How does it taste like?

Re: Red Bananas
Sounds looking a very an awesome and testy, I have to say that the red banana has more beta carotene and vitamin C than the yellow banana varieties. One red banana gives 422 mg potassiam, 10 mg vitamin C, 3 g fiber, 105 calories, etc so we must have eat at least one read banana everyday.
