Found Apple Naners..

I am waiting for a shipment to come in. Should be today or early tomorrow for it. But, I found a place in Homestead, FL called "Robert Is Here". They sell and ship anything they have in store and (from my opinion using my research on mail/on-line ordering of tropical fruits) are very reasonable. Apple naners are only $2 a bag or roughly $1.25 / lb. I have also seen some places selling dragon fruits for $10 per lb. and a minimum of 10 lb. order. Robert has no minimum order and will ship anywhere. I'll let you guys know tomorrow about the shipment.

Found some Manzanos in the Mexican supermarket here in So. California. For $1.15 a lb. Regular American supermarkets carry Baby bananas, which are smaller, not the same as Manzano. They also had Burro bananas, which I assume are Orinocos. I got those too, I dont know to eat it though, its yellow and still not ripe.

I read somewhere that you have to wait until they look like they are turning dark and when they are soft, then eat it. Not even sure where I read that. Hopefully someone that knows will come in here and leave a post for you.

I have heard the same as Blue, wait till there is sugar spot (black spotting all over) and somewhat soft, supposed to be the sweetest.

For the Burros (Orinonco) you can either eat them green by frying or baking them (see recipe section) or you can wait until they get really ripe and eat them. When I let mine ripen they have the best taste to me when they slightly yield to pressure when I squeeze one as a test.

Cool! Hope I get to try mine. They have been hanging in there since all through winter and now I have a bear around the house...and if he eats my nanas after all this waiting I've done...........I'll start a bear hunt of my own!
