I would like to know if this banana is Fhia 18.

Hey figafita,
It's always hard to tell what variety a banana plant is when it's young, but I agree with you that this certainly looks like a FHIA variety of some kind. I'm almost positive it's not a Goldfinger (FHIA-01) because there's way too much purple on the pseudostem and petioles. Also, the Goldfinger doesn't have colored leaf midribs. The faint red blotches on the leaf in the first picture show that it has some AAA genetics (Cavendish & Gros Michel families). The plant also looks a lot like a Namwah type, but they don't have red leaf blotches. My best guess would be either (FHIA-02) or like you were thinking, a FHIA-18. The FHIA-18 is a pretty popular variety, and I know there are quite a few people on here that grow it. Maybe they can help figure this out for sure. Hope this helps!

It almost looks like a Mysore type. Can you get a shot of the underside of a newly emerged leaf?

Wine splotches are also present on AAB types and some tetraploid genome groups. Pups from my Raja Puri often have wine splotches. The only genome group that doesn't have them that I know of is ABB. To me, this either looks like a Mysore type or possibly a plantain. Could also be something from the Red subgroup.

Color is strongly affected by growing conditions, e.g., how much nitrogen the plant has been getting. Don't get too hung up on its "lipstick". Young plants like this one are practically impossible to identify definitely if the number of possible varieties it could be is large. You can rule out some varieties, for example, like the ABB ones which all have closed petioles.

I bought this as Fhia 18 with a bunch of others last year. I thought that all of them died but this one surprised me and started to grow some leaves. It bearly grew until a month ago when it started to really take off. Now it is growing 1 leaves a week. One wired thing I noticed about it....it is leaning on one side. I noticed this from the beginning so when I moved it in a bigger container about a month ago I made sure i planted it strait up and now is leaning again.

Caliboy a new leaf emerged last night and this is how it looks....

If it was a mysore or iholena wouldn't you see the purple color on the cigar leaf or does the leaf need to be open to see the color ?

Yes, you would. Sometimes it's not as apparent, but on this plant it's pretty much absent, so that's probably not what it is.

It's the name of the organization that has bred a series of cultivars. The cultivars are named FHIA-01, FHIA-02, etc.
