Nice to be here.

Hey people, a little about myself. I was a Peace Corps volunteer in Nicaragua and part of my job was improving nutritional security. A colleague in a different part of the country started growing bananas and gifted me an "hijo" to start my own garden. I remember looking out of my window every morning to see how each new leaf had been developing or unrolling. I wanted to continue working with bananas even though I live in New York so I bought a super dwarf to get started.

I am interested in urban agriculture so anyone else who has knowledge in that area please feel free to discuss it with me!

Peace and have a nice day.

Welcome. You see, the paradox is, that if I went to Nicaragua, I simply wouldn't come back. :D
Not only because of bananas.
I hope you'll enjoy this site and all the people! Once again, welcome!

Re: Nice to be here.

Welcome!

I was in Nicaragua in August and ate bananas/plantanos every day. Loved the weather and people. I took some pineapple pups and seeds there and wished I could have brought some bananas back, but couldn't do that.

I'd like to chat with you some in private, so send me a PM or e-mail when you've got time. I hope to go back to visit some families next year. I was surprised to often see poor people not growing much, if any, of their own food.

Peace,

Harvey

Welcome aboard, ElGuineoNicaraguense :) ! Wow! Sorry, If I learn to spell that, I'll never have to take another English class as long as i live! Fraid I'm about as "urban" as cayotes & black bears. But I know there are members here that dwell in cities!
It's a very friendly & info-packed site with Lots of specialists. If ya have any questions about using the forum, just ask.
Enjoy!

Welcome to the site! SDC (Super Dwarf Cavendish) is a great plant! I have one myself and really like it so far. Hope you love yours as well! Enjoy the site...there's a lot of great information on here and if you have questions you can't find the answers to, just ask!

Re: Nice to be here.

I'm really excited to get started with my SDC now that I have so much support! I'll be posting pics as soon as possible.

By the way, Guineo is another word for banana in central america.

This is going to be great.

So today I received my hijo in the mail. I transferred my basil to a larger pot and put the SDC inside the old one. Here is a pic:
