Hey people, a little about myself. I was a Peace Corps volunteer in Nicaragua and part of my job was improving nutritional security. A colleague in a different part of the country started growing bananas and gifted me an "hijo" to start my own garden. I remember looking out of my window every morning to see how each new leaf had been developing or unrolling. I wanted to continue working with bananas even though I live in New York so I bought a super dwarf to get started.
I am interested in urban agriculture so anyone else who has knowledge in that area please feel free to discuss it with me! Peace and have a nice day. |

Welcome. You see, the paradox is, that if I went to Nicaragua, I simply wouldn't come back.
![]() Not only because of bananas. I hope you'll enjoy this site and all the people! Once again, welcome!

Welcome!
I was in Nicaragua in August and ate bananas/plantanos every day. Loved the weather and people. I took some pineapple pups and seeds there and wished I could have brought some bananas back, but couldn't do that. I'd like to chat with you some in private, so send me a PM or e-mail when you've got time. I hope to go back to visit some families next year. I was surprised to often see poor people not growing much, if any, of their own food. Peace, Harvey |

I'm really excited to get started with my SDC now that I have so much support! I'll be posting pics as soon as possible.
By the way, Guineo is another word for banana in central america. This is going to be great. |

So today I received my hijo in the mail. I transferred my basil to a larger pot and put the SDC inside the old one. Here is a pic:
