I Am A New Member Today And Would Like To Tell A Litte Bit About Myself. Where I Am Is A Sub Tropical Area And Have Three Types Of Banana's Growing Curently. My Plants Are Very Precious To Me, I Have Started A Small Collection Of Different Tropical Plants That Are Doing Well. My Biggest Banana Trees Are Ones That Did Not Have A Species Label. When I Purchased It Just Said Musa And I Have Not Seen A Banana Leaf In Any Pictures Yet That Resemble It. It Has Very Broad And Wide Leaves. Hopefully I Can Get A Picture Soon On A Identification Thread. My Big Banana Trees Are The Second Generation Stage Now After The Mother Plant Has Fruited. They Have Several Pups That I Will Need To Seperate. The Trunks Of These Are Also Very Big Compared To Other Banana's. The Banana Leaf Is The Center Of Most Of My Collection. Gingers, Heliconia, Bird Of Paradise, Canna Have The Same Shaped Leaves. I Also Have A Collection Of Different Palms And Cycads. The Soil In My Front Yard Is Very Fertile Since I Have A Bird Sancuary In My Canary Island Date Palm. I Have Had Sprouts Of Three Common Palms Growing From Seeds And Some Other Unidentified Plants. The Birds Bring All Kinds Of Unexpected Things Pine Seed, Watermelon, Fig Etc. I Have Seen Tropical Parrots From Mexico Eating Date Fruit For Several Weeks Until They Move On. I Live In Zone 10 And Have Tried To Make A Lot Of Microclimates To Resemble The Real Tropics. Maybe One Day I Will Be Sucsessfull. |
