New member, have been growing tropicals including bananas in the Vancouver BC area for over 15 years. Pic below of back yard....

Just moved so have to start from a few pups I cut out...

Also left my prized huge snow gum eucalyptus behind so starting from scratch. At least I have just over an acre this time!

Welcome klkruser!
I'm an island girl myself, currently landlocked in the Yukon. We're moving back to the island next week so I too will be starting from scratch! (not that we can really grow anything tropical/exotic up here..)

Wow! You've got a snow gum growing with bananas?

That's incredible. Snow gums grow in the cold, the name sort of suggests it.

I thought Vancouver was temperate....

We are 8a.....and here I thought they were referring to the whitish bark or white spray of flowers! Well I planted it as a 6 foot 1.5 inch tree and within 6 years it was 30 foot tall...s'all I know

The pic is of the place in White Rock I just sold.

Here's a link in Wikipedia. It's one of the few Eucalypts that can survive alpine (frozen) conditions I believe.

That's the one alright, the flowers are quite stunning when they start blooming. I have just located another specimen of it locally to plant on my acreage.

Now to get some bananas going again!

I'd like to think we are a tad warmer than Alaska tho on the coast ....-7C is cold for here....

Nice that you have so much land now, but I'm sorry you had to leave some prized plants behind. I'm a new gardener- just starting my collection and I'm already thinking that I can never move (unless I learn how to propagate some of these guys). Have fun with the new yard!

Will do Darkman. Just in the process of putting some oddballs in, Pawpaw, Kiwi, bananas off course, Eucalyptus, and of course more typical local stuff like pear, red delicious apples. Thinking of starting a Pinot Noir corner LOL

Oh yeah, also a Kafir Lime and a cold hardy lemon.

Looks like your yard has great bones. Looking forward to your additions. I have a pool and I guess I don't like cold as I only like it when it hits about 86 degrees. Currently my pool is running between 76 and 80.
