Welcome to a great group of banana lovers. My DH also is a Captain and has his own boat, fishes for cobia, tripple tail, scamp (My Favorite), grouper, snapper, triggers, tuna, etc but his favorite is wahoo. I scuba dive. I also work so when I am off I really like to garden.
Welcome aboard!

Welcome to the forum! I hope you learn a lot here and have some great times. Like Eric said, post pics in a new thread on the 'Banana ID' forum and the experts will likely give you a good idea of what your plant is.

Welcome Hightider,

Are you in the Outer banks region of the great state of NC? I just love that area. When ever we are driving to Myrtle Beach we usually come back through the Outer Banks and revisit Va Beach and Norfolk ( I was stationed there for three years) and make our way back to the Bluegrass.

Welcome Hightider, sorry I missed your introduction when you posted it. I'll have to get down somewhere where there's wahoo someday I guess. Till then I'll have to suffer with stripers There are other members here from your area that I'm sure will welcome you when they see this. One is also a commercial ....check that... make it a Licensed Captain(not sure exactly) I believe based in Oregon inlet.

This is a really nice forum that I have just started posting in recently. Bananas in general are beautiful plants and thank goodness for Cold hardy bananas. Im trying a Musa basjoo again this spring. Cold hardy palms are also a cool thing to try and with 5 acres you can experiment with tons of tropical looking thinks (and you will probably succed since you live so near to the coast. Evergreen magnolias are becoming really common by me and I think they are really tropical looking trees. I used to call them "Artichoke trees" because of their seed pods!

If I had 5 acres of land I would definately have an elaborate tropical pond with an elevated large wooden bridge running across it, and of course cannas and thalias as well as a plant called Dinosaur food-I can see why because they are huge and cold tolerant too. Dont forget the bamboo and bananas (you can even plant some non-hadry fruiting bananas and cut the leaves off and dig them up before a frost). As you can see Ive given this some thinking in the past

WELCOME!

Hi Hightider . Just one thing. Be careful to keep the nanas away from the shore. Sea salt can really hurt them. BTW, I was late starting with nanas too. Just wanted Timber bamboo & it wasn't till 2 years later that I decided to try out banana plants. Glad I did! Making albums & posting pictures is just a little difficult, first time ya try. The second time is a Lot easier! My dad helped me write a guide to help new members out. Just click on this link:

See ya in the threads! Good Luck!
