![]() Hey there,
I joined this forum because a lot of people seem to know about dragon fruit! I've been growing plants for nearly 8 years. I really enjoy growing carnivorous plants... some of you may recognize me from other forums. I do have some hardy bananas growing outside, so I know a bit about them. lol. This looks like a really cool forum! ![]() |

![]() Welcome Jeff. I have a Puya Berteroniana from Chile that traps sheep and other animals in it's backwards turned razor sharp hooks where they die and decompose feeding the plant over time. I guess it's carnivorous.

![]() Hi Jeff and welcome to the board coming from the land of Nepenthes! Hope you got all the 11 species found in Malaysia!
![]() ![]() ![]() However, not to go off track, this is THE 'naner board in town, any town. If you are not into it big, give it a shot. Otherwise, I can talk nepenthes with you as I was a big time nut before. I collected only the species, not the hybrids and had almost all the lowland ones from this region. I gave up cos they became hard to control once they are established. It's like many Jack and the Giant Beanstalk all going off at once! ![]() |

![]() Thanks guys for all your replies! I've had a very busy week.
Momoese - I've never heard of that bromeliad, but it looks really cool! How big is yours currently? Tog - Nice! I don't have THAT many lowlands, because they get pretty big and I use a bunch of tanks. I've got some pretty big ones though... bicalc, raffs, clipeata, etc. I know how you feel about hybrids, but I've just come to accept them. It's almost impossible to make them grow like they do outside in warmer climates. Someday I'll move... ![]() I'd love to talk about them with you sometime. |

![]() I decided to keep it in a small container in the backyard away from my pets so it's only about 10" tall. The original plan was to plant it in the front yard, but I can only imagine the lawsuit when a nieghbors pet or child gets stuck in it!

![]() Hey Mitchel, I just googled this plant. What a beauty! From what I gather it takes about 5 years to reach flowering size. It seems worth the wait. I'd still put it out in the front yard if I were you, you're dogs hang out in the back right?

![]() Yeah the dogs are in the back. We do have a cat that hangs in the front a lot, and the nieghbor has 2 cats that spend time out there. I'd hate to see them get stuck in it! If I was lucky enough to find them stuck I'd pretty much have to destroy the plant to free them. I have had my hand stuck in it a few times while trying to move it and it was not easy to free myself. You have to push your hand further into it while trying to move the leaf blades away. Very scary!
