Welcome to the forum. Im growing a banana plant too and I was told that miracle grow is cool for bananas so thats what I used for mine. Well a mix of miracle grow and soil. About watering all I know is that it depends on what variety of banana plant you have. But mostly they like water when its warm but if its cold or too cool outside then you shouldnt give it very much water or the stem can rot.

About winter I dont know. I tried that one year but fail. But I think theres other members that raise banana plants in the winter so they probaly know all about that. I think theres even a section thats all about that but I cant check right now because Im posting.
