Hi from Rowland heights.
Dad got a banana plant from one of his coworkers.
While we have been successful once or twice. Heat cold and gophers have taken thier toll.. I would like to see them thrive once again in dad's backyard in memory of him.. |

Re: Hi from Rowland heights.
Welcome Alpha-tron,
Check out what this member is doing with IBC containers. It might be an inexpensive way for you to control gophers. Container collection

Re: Hi from Rowland heights.
Welcome!
I’ve tried using 1/2 in hardware cloth (think “chicken wire on steroids”) to line a couple of my plantings against gophers. Fingers crossed. |

Re: Hi from Rowland heights.
In my past experience that can work well if the mesh also extends 18" above ground to create a short fence. Apparently gophers don't like to climb on metal.

Re: Hi from Rowland heights.
I have retaining wall bricks three layers that are surrounding the banana trees but we have gophers that dig down past 18 inches. I have buried chicken wire around dad's old raise beds 3 feet to stop them from eating dad's old garden..
