My name is Jon, I signed up here because I'd like to start growing bananas as part of my garden (Northwest Louisiana). I have a dwarf variety that I got a few pups from my nephew (he wasn't sure the exact variety, unfortunately), and I have a fairly established Carolina King (if that really is a variety and not just a marketing buzzword). My aunt and uncle had banana trees in their back yard in New Orleans in the 80's when I was a kid, but I always thought Northern Louisiana was too cold. I'm giving the CK a shot, though, and overwintering the pups indoors.

Jon,
Welcome to Bananas. I live in south Louisiana. I wish you the best of luck with your bananas. If you don't mind and you have some pics of your Carolina King, please post them |

When I purchased it, the site said it was hardy down to 10 degrees. Apparently that's 10 *C*, not 10 *F*, and we definitely got below 10 C for the past few nights. I guess I should've asked for clarification. Live and learn. |

That's like 50 degrees. IDK of anyplace in the Carolinas that stays that warm. Pretty stupid name for a tropical banana then. If it's that sensitive, it may need a funeral. That's a shame. Carolina King sounds more like a Christmas tree, anyway. Balsam fir var. Carolina King, LOL.
Hope it comes back for you though! ![]()
