Hi,
I'm a new banana tree owner. I just purchased a pair of banana trees from ebay and I can't wait to get them. I'm a little nervous, but very excited to get them. I hope they grow enough so that I can overwinter them outside. I don't know yet, I guess I'll have to see how big they get. Now I have to find out what kind of fertilizer I need and how often I should fertilize them. I was referred by ekoboat. I hope my trees will look as nice as his! |

I am sure you will find this board a great tool for your future nanner questions, advice, etc. There are tons of great people that use this board and they are all great at helping each other out with all kinds of questions...
I was just wanting to ask you, if I may, where you are located (general area), types of bananas you have ordered, and anything else that you can think of to tell us to help you get off on the right foot with your purchase... I don't mean to get too personal, it just helps if we know where you live... Again, welcome to the board... Randy 4ut ![]() |

A very welcome and as Randy says it would be helpfull if you could add the
area where you live and the USDA-zone you are in to your profile. Ron |

Welcome aboard!
Some useful "info" pages in the wiki: http://www.bananas.org/wiki/Info:Fertilizer http://www.bananas.org/wiki/Info:Soil http://www.bananas.org/wiki/Info:Tissue_Culturing Surprised the tree police didn't pull you over yet for calling bananas plants trees, heh ![]()

Wow,
I really didn't expect to get any responses to my "Hi" post. This is pretty cool Anyway, I'm on the cusp of Central and Northern NJ. I believe my zone is 6, although some literature is more exacting and says I'm 6a. I purchased 2 Musa Basjoo plants from ebay. They will be shipped potted and supposedly measure 5-7 inches from the soil line. To me, it seems a bit tiny, but everyone says that they grow fast. I think i'll start them off in larger pots, and if they grow fast, I'll transplant them into the ground. The reason for that is I want to make sure they get big enough for winter. If they don't, it'll be easier to drag them in than to dig them up and drag them in. If they do go into the ground, they'll go by the pool right next to our grey & salmon colored cobble stone patio. I hope that's all the info you need. Thanks again for your help! |
