I am not sure what type I ended up with. The gentlemen I bought them from did not speak real good english. They are about 1 ft tall and are in a small pot. I do not know whether to plant into the ground or replant into a larger pot. Any help would be great. Also what do I need for a good soil mix.

Hi sorry for the long delay in answering your post, my Mom got sick and I was back East for a while.
I do not know what kind of Banana I am growing, I just bought them and they are still in the 1 gal pot and they need to be replanted but I do not know whether to plant in the ground or to plant in a large pot? I have been told that if you plant in the ground you will never get rid of them if you want to? To plant in a pot what kind of soil would I need and how big will they get in a pot, big enough to produce fruit? Sorry for rambling!

Thanks,
Terry

Bananas aren't invasive like mints. Gee, if they were, they're be a lot of very happy forum members dancing in their own personal jungles. The major reason to pot them up is because most of those varieties which produce edible fruit can't take winter frosts. Zone 9 can be reliably iffy then; even where I've settled freezes happen though not often. What kinds did you purchase? Pictures are always appreciated here.

I will try to get a couple of pics up as soon a I can. Does it matter which type of banana you have as to the soil it needs to be planted in for a pot?

I suspect if you do some reading in the container grown section your questions will be answered; if not, ask. Not everyone looks at the member intro section once they've expressed their "welcome" so questions often get overlooked.
