So here I am adding another interest to my ever expanding collection. Growing citrus, orchids, cacti, passionflower, avocado, carob, guava, figs. I've dates, starfruit, and cherimoya in germination stage. I never expected to be considering growing bananas oddly enough. What with some of the far more difficult things I have tried growing or have planed for quite a while. And in pots. Because currently I reside in a fairly cool region at least in winter (I actually like snow and stuff). I used to tell my self under no circumstances would I move some place warmer...but this staunch idea is beginning to soften. Suppose a greenhouse would be a compromise? There's just so much nice stuff to grow and eat.
Call me crazy. Hello everyone! I have been finding all kinds of info across the web, and searching for credible sources for banana pups. I even have an idea of where I'd like to start with varieties. Looking forward to gleaning much more info from all you experts here!! -S Last edited by luteo : 02-06-2015 at 12:40 AM. |

Well I live in NW Ohio. It used to be a zone 5, but now is a zone 6B micro climate.
So growing in pot is my only option, outside every warm day possible I suppose in the summer. Figures dwarf varieties make the most sense, but I have read that a pot will dwarf any variety anyways. And who knows what affect this has on the fruit? Even with very good soil/compost/manure/michoriz/etc. I would expect fruit that taste better than the stuff in the grocery store though. So varieties? I am leaning towards a dwarf Jamaican red firstly. For some reason the Hua Moa is really drawing my attention (it's a much taller variety though). A real Ice Cream of course, Nino, Mona Lisa, Popolou, Praying Hands. Am I being too adventitious? That's my consideration list for now HAHA. |

No, no pictures. THere's nothing to look at right now. The roofers destroyed a bunch of plants around the house, including the manzano and half the vegetable garden. Despite being reassured they would only throw stuff off in a certain spot to avoid any damage.
So the Manzano has no leaves now, poor thing... |
