Hallo!
Yeah yeah, I know I registered a bit ago and haven't been that quick to post anything. I finally got around to it here, today. First, I thank rmplmnz for his generous contributions to my efforts. I also recently had the chainlink fence removed from the backyard, so I've also got a few pictures of a "work in progress." I just need to viciously trim the damned oak trees Clearly, the jungle near the south edge of the property will be most challenging.

Re: Hallo!
Good morning Ivanov!
Don't be too hasty in removing those oaks. In the winter they create a warm zone (microclimate) that will keep the immediate area a few degrees warmer during Freezes. That will make a big difference in cold protection. Good weather to you!! |

Those trees are a BIG help for the storm winds and cold snaps. The wide-open areas get hit the worst, so I usually plant close to the creek, the house, and the perimeter for the big stuff. Smaller annuals go wherever =P |

Re: Hallo!
You will also fing that that Live Oaks (Quercus virginiana) will hold up to strong winds better than any other tree in your area. They make a good wind break in hurricanes if they are 50 to 100 feet (15 to30 meters) away from the house.
Good growing and weather to you Ivanov!! |

Re: Hallo!
Let's see if I can get these to show up properly...
Now that I have more time on hands, I certainly hope to get a lot more done in much less shorter time than a year, hahaha. |

Re: Hallo!
Ivanov,
Years ago both the U.S. and Russian navy were doing joint experiments in the Black Sea, and I was briefly involved with it. I remember corresponding with a Mr. Kuznetsov from the Kuban who was thinking of taking a faculty appointment at Univ. of Florida. Was that you ? !!

Re: Hallo!
Sorry, Ivanoz Kuznetsov is a generic name I used to sign up. It's the russian equivalent of "john smith."
