I use a 1000 watt halogen system on some of my plants over the winter. Needs special
wiring.

I found some cheap grow lights on my local Craigslist. I'm sure the original owners didn't use them for growing tropical fruits.

If you plan on doing it every winter then LED lights will save you money in the long run. Full spectrum CFL's if you just want to experiment. I used the CFL's for a few winters. I've got a bunch of grow lights that I bought and never used because they needed special wiring (larger base) and would cost too much to run (250W, 300W and 500W) and my wife got tired of the gnats in the basement where my plants were. Lots if good advice on the websites where people are growing pot indoors. They are usually less concerned about cost but they sure have everything down to a science.
