greenhouse banana fertilizer
I have a dwarf cavendish banana that I grow in a greenhouse. I keep the temperature at 70F and humidity at about 80%. The plant is about 5' tall and I recently transplanted my banana plant into a 50 gal nursery pot.
My banana plant grows well but I am worried that once it blooms, it won't have enough nutrients to set fruit. What is the best fertilizer for large container banana plants? How often and how much of it should I apply? Should I fertilize more once it blooms? |

Can't say I am doing things correct but most of my bananas are in pots and I've gotten around 10 + bunches already.
I do feed a little more potassium once it blooms. (Not much). Everything else I do is about the same as before, (not as much N) I've been learning more since I started so I didn't do everything in the beginning the way I do now. I would not be worried about the fruit setting. My first bloom took about 1/2 year till it was ripe but it was over winter in the greenhouse so wasn't perfect settings. I think the shortest I got so far with Cavendish is 5 months. Last edited by Sarah Brubacker : 12-16-2018 at 07:59 PM. |

Ok so I went and checked what the numbers are. For the foliar, 9-18-9 That is 10 oz for 25 gal. I do around 2-3 times a week for summer now I do around once a week. The greenhouse goes down to 50f on cold nights.
For the Potassium is 4-18-38 I give that about once a week bigger plants get a small hand full spread around smaller plants in 5-10 gal. pots get a few tablespoons. And that is very variable sometimes it might go quite some time before I get around to fertilizing. The Nitrogen I could not find the stuff I use, I dont use alot if any in the winter. But in the summer maybe mixing some in the water every other week. And I don't know what the measurements are because often I feed them what I feel like to. So far I haven't had over fertilizing, maybe a touch? Hope that answers your question. |
