Bananas in Zone 6
Hi,
My name is Olaf Henny, I live in Penticton, BC, Canada Hardiness Zone 6. In have a Musa Basjoo with 5 pups, which I have just "packed up" for the winter. It is now 11:15 PM here and I am about to turn in. In the next little while I will endevour to describe my rather elaborate protection procedure for the winter, including pictures. The M. Basjoo is touted to have a corm, which is winter hardy to H.Z. 5, but I want to try to protect as much of the pseudo stem as possible, to give it a better start next spring. Until soon, Olaf |

Hi Olaf, nice to see you here:woohoonaner:
You should check out Hollyberry's thread on growing basjoo in Ontario for lots of opinions on basjoo hardiness. There are plenty of them here, some saying they;re perfectly hardy in zone 5 with others(myself included) feeling all the protection you can give is best. Welcome aboard! |
