This newbee likes to grow tropical plants. I am fortunate enough to live in zone 10a but some of the the tender tropical are next to impossible to grow without some type of protection. I alway like to go out on a limb and challange my self with next to impossible plants to grow. For instance I have been growing a dwarf golden malayan coconut palm in a pot for 7 yrs. (large bonsai). I have also been growing a lipstick palm (death below 45 F.) for several years. My latest project is a AeAe banana I purchased last fall. So far so good. I am now look to find the elusive Alocasia Robusta. I hope I can not only learn from this site but also contribute. Thank You Rick

Hi and welcome to the board! If you want to get the A robusta, try malesiana tropical from Sarawak. They ship international. I had this plant before and you have to go a little slow on the water at first. Best of luck! :02:

Welcome zapper. A lot of us here challenge our zones as well. If I were in your zone I'd be trying cyrtostachys lakka for sure. Not up here in Jersey though. Post some pictures when you get more familiar with the site.
