was just wondering if this plant has trickled into the us, europe yet. it's sure to be a hit... although it's costing a bomb over here in singapore and thailand.

Nice pictures! Is that your plant? How much are they selling for in singapore and thailand? Any more info on them?

Is that from Palawan Island, Philippines? I have a piece of land over there but haven't set foot on that island yet. Maybe will go banana hunting expedition within 10 years...

:banana_ba :banana_ba :banana_ba This is a very hot banana, it might be very interesting, because it will be a puping alternative for Ensete maurellii.

Now I emailed to three banana experts in the U. K., France (INIBAP) and Finland about these new species. I hope to get more infos about these new species, then I will tell you about that.

Best wishes
Joachim

it's great to know that so many people are interested in this beautiful banana.

personally i have not got mine yet as i dont have the space for it. i know that bananas really do take off when in the ground and not in pots...

when i finally do get some at the end of the year i'll keep u guys informed. I'm still in sch and currently preparing for my exams. my main interest lies in plumeria and we've been using singapore as a transit point from the usa before sending off the plants to europe.

usually we root the plumeria cuttings that our friends buy from overseas, here in singapore, cos they dont grow roots easily in cold weather. then we send out rooted plants. so, no problem with the phyto and stuff. its relatively hassle free and cheap here and we know the procedures... it's just that i have to find the time... :)

Hello

Ryan:
I am very interested in this red banana species. Could you tell me if there is a way of receiving a few plants? I am happy to buy them of you or a supplier, or swap them against other species. Please let me know.

Basjoofriend:
Did you manage to get any further information about this plant of any of your contacts? This would be very helpful.

Thanks
Christian

Hi Christian,

welcome in the forum. I learnt from one banana nurseryman from Austria that this is originated from Papua-Newguinea, it was exported to the Phillipines, to the Palawan Island. Then the plant is bred there and is exported to Singapore. This is a Musa acuminata variety.

These are the only other infos, but the banana nurseryman Achim (http://www.bananenshop.at) has not this variety in his offer yet.

With the best
Joachim

That is one pretty banana! I want one, or ten, or twenty, too!
Do they have seedy fruit, I wonder or edible? because if they come true from seed, that would be cool, too.
