ladybugs
Has anyone noticed that Ladybugs are attracted to Banana Trees? I have noticed ladybug eggs, larva and adults mostly under the leaves of my Musa Basjoo clump. Great breeding ground to help get rid of some unwanted pests in the garden.

I haven't seen any under my bananas. But then, I wasn't particularly looking for them there. I did buy a tub of them a couple of years ago, but they all left. It's nice to know, though. I'll be looking out for them next year. I might even buy a couple of tubs then, too. Thanks for the heads up.

When injecting ladybugs into your garden, keeping them there is the biggest problem.
The best way to keep them at home is to only put them out at dark (they won't flt at night after you have watered the plants you are putting them on (they won't fly if tthey think it is raining. Good luck!

One day in the orchard I set down a glass of diet coke. I noticed later that a lady bug had flown in, and later flew out. It didn't seem to be affected. I put out a few trays near citrus, tomatoes, etc. with a thin amount of diet coke, and found the lady bugs coming for a short visit, and leaving.

I collect ladybugs during summer and bring in the house to live on my indoor bananas for winter, they only last a month or two but thats time I dont have to worry about the mites.
