Hi
I want to germinate some costus speciosa and costus lacerus seeds.
The description tells you need to soak it for 2 hours in hot water .
won't this kill the embryo ?

I don't think it will hurt the seeds as long as the water is warm not scolding hot. :2735:

Hi lodewijk,
Also from holland...haha..The main thing with gingers growing from seeds is that the seeds need to be fresh....if they are fresh you will have in just two weeks a lot of costus plants when you put them somewhere warm.
I have a lot of gingers.....i do grow a lot of them from seeds and i have never soaked them in water...if they are not fresh it can take a long time before you can see them appear.
kind regards esther

Yup. they have to be fresh to get good germination rate.
