I'm a newbie to the banana world and I stopped by Stein Garden and Gifts today on my way home and I saw these two beauties for only $3.99. I snatched them up and brought them home. I think they are musa basjoo which I have been looking for to plant outside in my yard. Let me know if they are or not. If not, I hope they are cold hardy :). I'm excited to jump into the banana world!!!!!

Welcome tim!!
I think that it are Cavendish hybrids, this means that they are comletly not hardy, I should bring them in when it gets colder than 40 F. they also dont get heigt, they are quite small ;)

Hi,
They are not M. basjoo, the leaf shape and color are wrong. I'll snap a photo of my small M. basjoo and post it. M. basjoo has reddish midribs when it first emerges which fades some as time goes by. Your bananas look very healthy, young dwarf and super dwarf Cavendish usually have lots of red markings on the leaves which your plants lack, so I don't think they are Cavendish. Just set them up in large pots, feed them well and enjoy!

I would bet they are ʻSuper Dwarf Cavendishʻ.

That's a great deal. Super Dwarf Cavendishes in the same size pot's around here usually go for over 10 bucks.
