I received some bad news this morning from GoingBananas. I had emailed them to add me to the waiting list for the Veinte Cohol. They returned my correspondence stating that I was added to the list and it looked like it would be sometime in September before I might be able to get one. For those of you that got your names on the list early, congrats!!! For those of you that were considering to get on the list at GoingBananas, it might be a while. I waited to try and see if I could pick one up last weekend while at the Bamboo Gardens, but they were not selling any so I went ahead and contacted GoingBananas.
Well, there is always next year!!!
Just thought I would pass on the information...

Found a nursery about 30 miles from here, he is into palms and bananas!
I will see if they are ordering any or have.

Might be able to get in on partial TC trays with him:woohoonaner: on other variates.

It is my understanding that Veinte Cohol is not in tissue culture right now. Someone correct me if I'm wrong.

Going Bananas is tissue culturing Veinte Cohol right now so many will be available in several months.

I've heard that they use agri-starts...so they might have some as well...

I have dealt with Agri Starts for many years, and didn't remember seeing Veinte Cohol. I just looked at their latest availability list, and VC isn't even listed, let alone available.

I just checked them out too. Over at going-bananas.com they show Veinte Cohol for sale, but it has a red asterix (no mention of what the red asterix means). That same red asterix is also on the 'Siam Ruby', which agri-starts states will be available April '08 (so I assume available soon). Anyway, at least going-bananas plans on having them soon, even if not right now.

Rob, there is a long waiting list for V. cohol at Going Bananas. It's good that they are in the process of tissue culturing to fill the orders! I talked to Katie and she gave me the impression that the V. cohols won't be ready yet for another 3 months.

Good luck to ya. Hope it's the right plant. You are one of the only people to actually get A plant from them!

In my opinion, VC needs extra special attention. However, my corm survived the nasty winter on '11 and returned three pups this year. One will go into a large pot an the other 2 will stay in the ground.

I'll be curious to know how they have progressed by August and if there is any fruit.

University of GA reports having enough plants this year to supply farmers for field test. There eye is for the most part is not fresh eating but feed and alternative fuel as I understand the articles I have read.

I have heard Dr. Fonsah, he talks about Veinte Cohols for human consumption. By niche markets he means farmer's markets, ethnic grocery stores and people willing to try a banana without a Dole sticker on it.
