I have never seen so many Bananas!!!! All types/sizes were growing wild everywhere.

If Delta ever finds my luggage, I will post some pictures.

The most remarkable banana that I saw was on with a solid black psuedostem. It was nearly 20 feet tall. It was a very striking plant and would be a great lanscape specimen. When I talked to the locals, they said it was once used for making fibers/rope, but now that is too labor intensive. The fruit was inedible with many seeds.

Is anyone familair with this type?

Love the colour on those Musa , be good to know what it is and if we can grow it. You did not get a chance at collecting seeds then ?

Very nice.
I keep talking about taking a trip down there, but have mainly been looking at the Pacific coast. (since that's where the Dendrobates granuliferous are located). I have a few friends that go down there once a year. I will have to ask if they have seen those bananas.

http://i7.photobucket.com/albums/y274/porkpi/redfrog.jpg We saw hundreds of these little guys near the black bananas. D. pumilio, another poison dart frog.

We got a good deal from VRBO.com

Porkpi, sorry I never caught up with you on Edisto! Maybe next year.

The first is likely a Musa textilis variety, there are many different varieties of it (a photo of the fruit bunch would make it easier to say though). The second one is Musa balbisiana.
