Hi All, I am new to this site and Banana trees as a whole. I got my first Banana Tree last year and have had much success with it. I have always wanted one and finally found one through mail order. It is my prize in my plant collection. I have many questions about banana trees and hope to learn much from you fellow seasoned banana's. :goteam:

Welcome to bananas.org.
Banana plants are cool looking plants and fun to grow. Actually they are not a tree. They are an herbaceous plant, because their stem is a pseudostem that does not contain any true woody tissue. Banana leaves twist and turn around each other to form the pseudostem.
If you would cut it, the stem would look similar like a cut onion.
Where are you located? What kind of banana plant did you get and where did you get it from?

Thank you for the warm welcome. I guess I need to up date my location information. I live in the foothills of the smoky mountains in Tennessee.

I got my banana tree from Michigan Bulb co. I order most of my garden plants form them. They are a wonderful outfit and provide healthier plants that I can successfully find here. I have had it about a year, it is my prize plant in my plant collection both inside and outside.

One quick question to help a new banana here. How do I add images to my posts?

In the upper section of any bananas.org page you find a blue search bar. It has options like user CP, photo gallery, WIKI, new posts etc.
Click on photo gallery. In the new opened page you will find a second search bar right below the one mentioned above. Go to the very right of that bar and click on upload photos. It says banana gallery upload photos.
Under "choose a file" select a file photo from your smartphone, PC or camera. Add a description and click submit/upload. Choose a medium file size.
And voilą, it is uploaded to your personal photo gallery here on bananas.org
To insert the photo to your posts, click on the photo itself.
It has three different codes below the photo( code for bulletin boards, html websites and for the WIKI). You will have to copy the code for bulletin boards a.
When you write your post, there is a tool bar in the header with two lines of options similar to creating documents on your PC. Second row, seventh icon to the right is what you want to click for being able to insert your photo. A popup window will let you paste your copied code in. Close that window and your photo should be inserted in your post now.
Sounds more difficult than it actually is. I have noticed that I can upload photos from my smartphone but need to use the PC for copying and pasting photos into posts. Other people upload photos to "third party" websites like "photobucket" and then copy and paste those codes into their posts.

So now show us some photos....

Home Depot and Lowes in Sevierville will have plants for you.... call them to make sure they are in... 8-15 bucks a plant.
Usually they carry three varieties in 1-3 gal containers.

Keep this in mind when the bug hits:ha:
