Not sure exactly what happened to the mother... Dad thinks he over-watered it... When he asked me to look at it, there was a tiny pup... So, I repotted, the mother continued to die and the pup has continued to thrive...

It's really too late in my season to separate... Will the pup be able to survive on the corm even though the other plant is dying/dead???
Total novice but long time gardener who is trying to understand the pup process so take what I say with a grain of salt...
I'd cut back mama 6" at a time and check to see what was left; she may not be dead. If you get to 6" above ground level, I'd stop. The pup looks very healthy to me. I suspect you could unpot and separate it but I wouldn't as long as the baby continues to grow happily; it is getting strength from the corm. However, those leaves look nothing like my obvious sword pups so I wonder if it's a water pup.
I am happy to be educated.

I've slowly been cutting the mother down... There is still some green in there, but she has pretty much stopped growing... The stump you see is about 6 inches tall...

Okay, we'll keep this going until an expert shows up...
When did you make the last cut? Do you see signs of rot in mama? I wouldn't rush to cut more; the pup looks happy. I suspect it has roots of its own at this point; until or unless mama starts "fouling" the pot, I'd wait.

My phone was REALLY close when I took the picture... The pup is 4 weeks old...
Last cut was about noon today... I don't see any rot, just complete lack of growth...

Maybe peel away the outer leaves from the mom to prevent possible rot and provide relief? IDK I say definitely water-sucker.
When did you notice mama dying? I would give the pup at least 2 months before severing it but I'm very cautious. (It looks very happy.) I have yet to cut 1 off. My 1st is now 2' tall, my next is about 6" and the last is 1" but the mother is thriving so I'm not making any cuts just yet. Did I mention I'm very cautious?

Dad told me about it 4 weeks ago... He said that it was maybe 2 weeks before that that he noticed that it started looking ill...
I've cut them off this size before, but not late in the year...
Thanks for the advice, Tony... Will do...

I agree with Tony. Let it be. Same thing happened with my Mysore, and it grew back from the new pup.

Let it grow, let it grow, let it grow... :)
What do you want to separate it from?
It owns the corm now, that mom is no longer around.
