Hello everyone

Just joined the forum. My name is Sajan and I live in Chennai, India.

As we joke about our weather in Chennai, we have 3 seasons - hot, hotter & hottest !

Our temperatures are between 75F to 105F and humidity is very high as well.

I have just acquired some pups of Ensete Ventricosum, Ensete Maurelii, Musa Coccinea, Musa Ae Ae, Musa Sumatrana and Musa Siam Ruby.

I am looking for advice on whether these varieties can take full sun or only filtered sunlight . People on this forum who may have grown these varieties in hot areas of the US such as Texas, Arizona, Florida may have direct experience?

Thanks a lot and I look forward to sharing my experiences in future.

Sajan

Welcome to bananas.org.
I do not grow any ornamental banana plants, but as far a I know no banana plant really likes 105F. I would carefully expose the plants to the sun.
We love to see pictures of each others plants. So share some photos of your plants here, too.

Welcome to the forum Sajan,

I planted a Ensete Ventricosum in the shade at the back of the house where it gets full indirect light from the southern sky (southern hemisphere). This will be a bit different for you as in Sth India the sun will travel through the year to both sides of a house, so maybe find a spot that is shaded in the hottest part of the year with bright indirect sun.

Thanks. The information I got locally was that considering the climate here, Ensete would do better in filtered sunlight.
Any thoughts on the other varieties ?

They will all look better if grown in filtered sunlight :woohoonaner:

Siam Ruby will probably love your climate. The others will probably benefit from some shade, at least occasional. They would probably survive in full sun, but would probably do better in partial sun. Just make sure they get enough water.
