Just thought I would say Hi. I have never grown bananas before, and may never. But I love gardening and I freakin' love little tree's (bonsai) of course.
I am sure I can get some things out of this and add plenty of stuff. I joined because I was reading a thread about Miracle grow soil and the people pulling for organics. I say down with Miracle grow. Feed the soil and the soil will feed the plants. Compost, vermicompost, And Soilsoup compost tea.
With the proper balance of organics and the use of compost tea will improve your soil garden especially more in one season than turning in a 5" layer of compost. You think I am crazy. I grew the tallest, fattest, best tasting, best looking, blemish free tomatoes, cucumbers, pole beans, you name it. Not a drop of organic or chemical fungicides. Just a weekly treatment of compost tea. Soil drench and spray the foliage till it is soaked. Add any other foliar feeds, or seaweed at the same time. Plants that had not a spot or blemish. The only thing that drives me up the wall is Japanese beetles.
The only organic way to deter then I have found is surround crop protectant.
The only good thing about it is that it is a wettable powder that can be mixed with the tea. Miracle Grow is good for the garbage. Use a mix of coir, perlite, vermiculite, worm castings, homemade compost, no need for added beneficial bacteria, it is already in there, and the tea will release the nutrients as the plants need them. Try to burn a plant, with quality organic products. After a couple of years Last year I turned in a good amount of my compost in my beds, this year to in some of my beds. One bed with daylilies just got a 1" layer as mulch, and weekly doses of tea. All my beds are complete perfect. LOAM . The day lilly bed is almost there. I will just use the tea this year and it will be butter to. The micro-organisms in the tea unlock the many nutrients in the clay. Clay soil is packed with nutrients and minerals. They just need to be unlocked. The tea is the bomb. It brings tired old soil back to life. FEED THE SOIL, AND THE SOIL WILL FEED THE PLANTS. Get on it quick. I just looked and they are having a 10% off sale.
