View Full Version : What kind of moisture gauge do you have?
Want Them All

I've been using one bought from Lowe's, the prongs are so flimsy, after only 2 months of use, one of them broke. I'm very careful and insert the 2 prongs with minimal pressure to soft soil only, if I encounter a hard/dry spot, I move to another area. I'm wondering if there's any other gauge that's more sturdy.
Thanks,

I use my finger or if the plant is small enough, slide it out of the pot to look at the soil.
I had a two prong moisture gauge like yours, I put it in water and it showed "semi-dry"!!
LOL
We just use a basic moisture meter from our local hardware store, and a separate similar one for Ph.

In my opinion, moisture gauges are a useless waste of money!

They certainly can be. The cheapo kind are designed for potting soil. They will definitely give you a false reading in soils containing clay. Basically, the meter will read "wet" until the clay is completely dry. :0493:
