Anyone know what the common name is for the Misi Luki is? Someone told me the Mona Lisa, but I think thats wrong. I thought the Mona Lisa was kinda like a dwarf cavendish banana.

Some more info here in our wiki: Musa Misi Luki - Bananas Wiki (http://www.bananas.org/wiki/Musa_Misi_Luki)
Whoever has it should peg their location on the map. :)

Misi Luki may refer to (a) "Misi Luki Of India" from the Mysore group or (b) "Misi Luki Of Samoa" which has different genetics and cultivated widely in the eastern Pacific, or (c) something else entirely.

Our experience in southern California growing the Misi Luki from AgriStarts is a plant with about 4-ft to 6-ft pseudostem height at maturity and produces 120+ fruits.

Richard,

Are the Agri-starts plants the version from Samoa, India or other?

I don't know. Tony (sunfish (http://www.bananas.org/member-sunfish.html)) has recently posted some photos of his fruiting Misi Luki grown here in San Diego.

Thanks Tony, I had read that, but wasn't clear on where AS acquired their original material for culture. Did it come from Encanto or Going Bananas? Do they both have the same plant?

I believe Encanto Farms and Agri-Starts are the same plant.

Mysores are usually easy to spot because they have reddish undersides to the leaves, few other common edible bananas show this. This includes Misi Luki and Pisang Klotek. That might help to determine if the plants anyone has are Mysore or not.

Gabe,

Just to be clear...are you saying that 'Misi Luki' does or does not have the reddish underside to the leaves? I have what was labeled as Misi Luki but it has no signs of the reddish tinge you mention on the undersides of its leaves.

Well, if they are very red, then I definitely don't have Misi Luki. I guess time will tell...when it fruits.

Here is what I got from another member here last year labeled as 'Misi Luki'. As you can see, there is no reddish to he undersides whatsoever. I don't blame the person I got at from as he only passed it along to me as what he bought it as. Any thoughts on ID?

Brent, your plant looks like an ABB cultivar (very waxy) , the most common ones in the US are: Orinoco, Ice Cream, Namwah and Saba. I would guess one of the first 3, leaning towards Ice Cream or Namwah, but you'll know when it/if flowers.

Well, I'll hope for 'Namwah' then, as I already have the others, except for 'Saba'. Thanks for your opinion, Gabe.
