This is my first post. I have been reading all of the great info on this site for the last 9 months. I am concerned about my basjoos. They are potted and I brought them in for the winter and they seem to be fine.the mother has stopped growing while the pups are now growing bigger. Is this normal? some of the other new growth have started to turn black and stop growing. but the new growth on some in the same pot are growing strong. They are all still in the house. I am waiting for warmer weather here in central new jersey. Any info would be great! I am very new to this banana thing. thanks

First off, welcome to the site! I hope you enjoy it here and learn a lot. What you described above has happened to me (at least similarly) in the past. When growing plants indoors during winter sometimes the main plant stops growing for whatever reason and the pups grow to take its place. Not sure why this happens, maybe a poor adaptation of the main plant to growth indoors (less sunlight, different humidity, etc) or some sort of signal it sends itself due to the conditions. I wouldn't worry about it too much, though. If the pups are growing well and look healthy, the corm is probably in good condition. Beware of anything brown/squishy...this is rot and should be removed immediately to prevent it spreading to healthy tissue. Cut back these areas carefully till you find tissue that is green/solid. Best of luck!
