My experience is that this is an excellent plant; but not easy to grow in comparison to other species. I do not use chemical fertilizers (strictly organic)..so this may add to my difficulties. Good drainage is key (most people that lose this plant over-water it or fail to control the moisture and it will turn to mush) ..so yes in a lower humidity environment this plant may do better.
