I planted one about that size in May last year and it hit around 11'. The spot you have picked out looks great to me. I used 10-10-10 and just dumped a cup full around it every two or three weeks. I'm gonna look for something like 6-2-12 this year. I think you could plant it now and just throw something over it if we get a frost. When it takes off growing you can water heavy.
