Even dwarf bananas get to be 6-8 feet tall, much larger than can be sustained in a 5 gallon pot. As a bananaphile, you will begin to think in larger sizes.

With regard to soil, a nice organic soil that drains well will give you results that will amaze. You'll get growth like you won't believe and pups galore. For example I had 3 Ice Creams this yesr in the ground, I now have 21. They greww from 2 feet tall to 8 feet and I expect fruiting this year. Feed and water heavily during the warm months and you will almost be able to watch them grow.
