Default Re: Attack of the wild Puerto Rico Banana seedlings!

Well, last year, I sprouted dozens of the seeds, but I lost all after transplanting - probably too late in my season? The variegated seedlings were especially fragile....none lasted more than a few weeks........

But low and behold, a year later - this past spring, I started having "volunteer's" popping up in last years planting medium I had recycled for veggies....

I moved 3 of the green ones (should produce some variegated pups) to 1 gallon pots, into my normal mixture around here, 1/3rd coarse sand, 1/3rd perlite, 1/3rd potting mix - and the biggest is now around 2' tall!! Will it make it though my mid winter conditions? (4 hours of sun, night-time temps occasionally down to mid 50's Fahrenheit) I talk to these little guys, daily, and point to my A'ea'e's, and tell 'em, "if they made it, YOU can too!

As these seeds sat in the moist medium for several months, then totally dried out all winter..........It just goes to show with musa seeds, don't give up too early!
