From what I've seen, most bananas will grow in shadier locations, but usually at the cost of growing much slower and (if edible) produce very reduced bunches. But if you're just looking for a nice foliage plant, I would first start to look based on what kind of leaves and flowers you may like and what kind of work you want to put into it. If its just foliage, M. basjoo would do fine, if you're looking for something to provide fruit, then the problem becomes the shade and not what variety you put in.
