it is recommended that eugenol be added to isoamyl acetate for imitation banana flavoring. Clove oil is about 90% eugenol. One or the other is often sold in drug stores as a tooth ache remedy.

Presumably, you should add enough clove to banana recipes so that the flavor becomes slightly sharp without being recognizable as clove.
