Yeah, mine had one leaf after winter and then that one leaf got knocked out by a windy storm. Month later all the bananas died. This year is looking good with eight leaves.
I remember TyTaylor commenting a few years back that too much nitrogen fertilizer can kill off the bananas. The flowering plant doesn't need any nitrogen as the growth phase is over. Potassium application should be continued however. If the plant has pups maybe continue with 50% N until the pup(s) are a good size.
