Default Re: How to harden off without sunburn

I have the same problem every spring. i do have a small trellis shaded area that helps a lot. It is no where big enough for all the plants coming out from the basement though. i get as creative as i can. Any umbrella, tree or thin fabric i can put up for some temp shade for shorter periods every day

last thing you want to do is burn all the leaves off just after getting them woke!
it is amazing how the new leaves can take full direct sun without any problem.
you need a week or two so as to protect the old leaves from too much direct sun. after that the plant is strong enough to push out new growth that can handle all the sun can give.
