I'm growing bananas in PA and I would NOT put them in the ground. If you do, you will think it's the best decision you have ever made. Those plants will grow and grow and grow...so fast you'll swear you can see it happen before you eyes. BUT, September rolls around and the "dig up" begins. If you plant the plants back in pots, those beautiful plants will struggle to recover from the shock and many might not (although you might be able to save the pups). I did this three years ago and I was dumbfounded and disappointed when their growth came to a screeching halt...maybe someone has had better luck the I did and they will post a wonderful success story!
