Default Re: Over Wintering Zone 8 Outdoors

Never stress over bananas, they are pretty tough.
So search up late blooms in this forum and there are things you can try. Then it’s up to Mother Nature. With a La Niña in progress you might get lucky on the frost being late.
Most likely that won’t work, no worries. Follow the advice for over wintering and next summer might be your year for bananas. I am going to do that AND I ordered some to over winter in pots to see how that goes.
Next spring set up a watering system and research fertilizer etc. bananas are heavy feeders and if you can keep a section of stalk from freezing it should give you the head start you need to have a shot at a bunch next year.
Good luck

Ps. My brother lives in round rock and is a prof at UT. I need to get him into bananas.

I'm going to check those videos mentioned above and try to figure out best approach. I have 2 stands of plants - one near our pool and one on the side yard - I may go science-y and cut one and wrap and protect the other and see what seemed to work best in the spring.
