If this is normal, i will cut off the little one that is dead, and wait for the other to totally turn brown. At what specific point do i cut, closest to the main stem/stalk?

It's totally normal . That's how they grow. The young leaves die off way quicker than the older ones. Every dead leaf you're closer to a mature fruiting plant.
