They do look like sauromatum venosum and I'd say they're starting to wind down for the season. Once the leaves start going, the stalks will wilt and they will die right back until spring.
Your zone appears to be at their limit so you may want to cover or store them for the winter.
This photo of my plants was taken about 10 days ago but yesterday I noticed some yellowing on the leaves.
