It's from the pup removal and repotting. It's rooting back out and will start growing again when it's ready. When it start growing it should push the dead stuff out. Just watch it. The top could be blocking new growth (choked) if that's the case you may have to cut some of the top to open it up. I would just wait and watch for now.
